Arm Liposuction Procedure Details
Arm liposuction surgery is performed at the Meridian Center for Surgical Excellence in Tualatin, OR. At the Meridian Center, we have a dedicated team of outstanding professionals to care for you.
Anesthesia For Arm Liposuction Surgery
Arm liposuction surgery can be performed with oral sedation and local numbing medicine using the Body-Jet liposuction machine. However, most of our patients prefer IV sedation and local numbing medicine. For that, you will have a board-certified anesthesiologist caring for you throughout your entire procedure. Also, it is an option to go undergo general anesthesia administered by one of our board-certified anesthesiologists. With our surgical and anesthetic techniques, we emphasize a rapid recovery with minimal discomfort postoperatively. With our rapid recovery approach, you can leave the Surgery Center about one hour after your procedure.
Arm Liposuction Surgical Technique
Arm liposuction is performed using the Body-Jet liposuction machine. Body-Jet liposuction is a new technology that provides a gentle and accurate way of removing fat with liposuction. The Body-Jet liposuction machine uses a spray of water at the tip of the cannula (a small tube) to dislodge the fat in a gentle fashion. This gentler technique and passage of liposuction leads to less bleeding and bruising compared to conventional liposuction. With this less traumatic technique, our patients generally have less down time and a more rapid recovery compared to those that undergo standard arm liposuction.
Very small openings will be made in the skin at the elbow regions and near the underarm areas to provide excess for performing the liposuction. First, an infiltrating solution with numbing medicine and adrenalin is injected. It is injected into the fatty layer. This solution provides anesthesia and limits bleeding. Next, Body-Jet liposuction is performed with a small cannula. During the liposuction procedure with the Body-Jet, a continuous spray of water at the tip of cannula dislodges the fat. This allows Dr. Connall to pass the cannula in a slow and gentle fashion and to precisely sculpt the arms. Patients often comment that liposuction procedures they see performed on television often look very aggressive with rapid jabbing movements of the liposuction cannula. With the Body-Jet liposuction a more gentle approach is taken and the cannula can often be passed slowly like the bow of a violin player.
After the arms are sculpted, the small incisions are closed with tiny sutures. Gauze pads and compressive sleeve garment is placed.
Recovery from Arm Liposuction
Recovery begins at the Meridian Center for Surgical Excellence. You will be fully awakened from your procedure and receive pain medication, liquids, and crackers to eat. After about one hour, you will leave the Surgery Center feeling well enough to continue your recovery at home.
Your initial recovery will require about three to five days. After three to five days, you can return to most basic home and work activities. However, we will have you defer vigorous activity and exercise for about two to three weeks.
See The Results From My Arm Body-Jet Liposuction
You will see improvements in your arms the moment you remove your garment and dressings for the first time. However, mild swelling will develop and it will take a few weeks for the swelling to resolve and for you to see the nice improved contours of your arms. It will take three to six months for all of the swelling to resolve and for the tissues to fully heal and to remodel. Your final results should include smoother, thinner arms which look youthful and proportional to your body.
