What is it?
Intense Pulse light is commonly abbreviated IPL. It is also referred to as Photo rejuvenation, or Skin rejuvenation. IPL restores a visibly fresh look to skin with both red and brown discolorations.
How does it work?
IPL systems work on the same principles as lasers in that light energy is absorbed into particular cells with color in the skin. The light energy is converted to heat energy, which causes damage to the specific target area. IPL systems are different to lasers in that they deliver many wavelengths in each pulse of light instead of just one wavelength. Here at Dr. Connall’s Office in Portland, OR, we offer Intense Pulse Light treatments, using Palomar, Starlux 500.
Is IPL right for me?
The Palomar Max-G handpiece can be used to reduce the appearance of red and brown discoloration of the skin. This treatment is very effective in treating sun damage, freckles, age spots, facial vessels, rosacea, acne, scars, and angiomas. IPL treatments can be performed on the face, neck chest, hands, or other areas of the body that need improvement. This treatment gives a beautiful healthy glow to the skin. Most people are a candidate for IPL treatments, a complimentary consultation is included to determine if IPL is an appropriate treatment for you. You will see improvement after just one treatment. Generally the number of treatments varies depending on each individuals needs.
Avoid sun exposure before and after your IPL treatment. The treatment itself is short, usually 30 minutes. The procedure requires no anesthetic and is generally not painful. After the treatment your skin may be mildly pink or red, you may have a sunburn like sensation, and mild to moderate swelling of the skin. You may return to your normal activities. Sun block of SPF 30 or higher is required after treatment.
